Work Truck Tool Box Essentials

Work Truck Tool Box Essentials

A well-stocked truck tool box is essential for maintaining productivity and getting the job done on schedule. Tools that are considered to be everyday carry are pretty much universal. A typical list goes well beyond the tool box, though, and includes pens, flashlights, notebooks, smartphones and more.

There are a few other EDC ‘tools’ that you might not expect to be as useful as they are. As they replenish the supplies in their tool boxes, smart maintenance and construction workers swear by these.

1. Paper Towels

You probably have fabric shop towels in the work truck tool box already. (If you don’t have them, you should.) Either way, paper towels can handle cleaning tasks an already-contaminated shop towel shouldn’t. When you’re finished with them, they are easily disposed of and make it easy to leave the job site cleaner than you found it.

2. Waterless Hand Cleaner

Mud, oil, grease and grime are part of the job. Most of the time it’s no big deal – but it isn’t always a good idea to just take the mess on to the next job site…or home with you. Keep a waterless hand cleaner, like GoJo or Goop, in your truck’s tool box and use it to protect and clean your hands, clothes, tools and vehicle when you don’t have another option. These cleaners are specially formulated to quickly break down contaminants that regular soap and water struggle to remove – without leaving a slimy residue behind.

3. Cable Ties

It’s good to have a stout rope or even bungee cords when you need to secure large objects. When it comes to smaller items and projects, cable ties have numerous uses as well. Keep a range of different sizes and lengths in the tool box so they’re easy to grab when you need to tie something together on the fly.

These items are inexpensive, easy to get a hold of, and make a big difference when you’re on the job. Have some more ideas about tool box essentials? Leave a comment about your tool box every day carry.
