Fabrication Operations Coordinator

This strategic leadership role reports directly to the Director of Operations and is responsible for the overall performance, production, safety, staffing, quality, and operational execution of the fabrication department.

The Fabrication Operations Coordinator will oversee one Project Manager, multiple fabrication leads, and approximately twenty-plus fabricators operating across multiple shifts and production workflows. This individual will be responsible for developing personnel, maintaining operational accountability, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring fabrication projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and with world-class quality.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Division Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the Fabrication Division, including the Project Manager, fabrication leads, robotic welding personnel, fitters, welders, machine operators, and fabricators.
  • Hold authority over hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, terminations, personnel development, and performance evaluations within the division.
  • Provide positive and re-directive feedback as outlined in the Mid-Land Enterprises handbook.
  • Build and maintain a culture focused on safety, accountability, quality, integrity, professionalism, commitment, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear production expectations, labor targets, throughput goals, and operational priorities utilizing EOS/Traction principles.
  • Manage manpower planning across day shift and night shift operations.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels, succession planning, and leadership development within the fabrication department.
  • Maintain division training plans and coordinate employee certifications, qualifications, and skills development.
  • Develop fabrication leads into frontline leaders capable of driving production and accountability.

Fabrication Operations & Production Management

  • Oversee, with support from the Project Manager, of all fabrication activities from project release through final shipment.
  • Ensure production deadlines and customer delivery schedules are achieved.
  • Monitor workflow bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Sales, Supply Chain, Drafting, and Field Operations to align fabrication schedules with project demands.
  • Support implementation and optimization of robotic welding operations and automation systems.
  • Ensure accurate fabrication tracking, production reporting, and labor accountability.
  • Support the development and implementation of fabrication SOPs, quality standards, and production workflows.

Quality Control & Continuous Improvement

Drive a proactive quality culture throughout all fabrication operations.

  • Ensure fabricated components meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, welding standards, and Mid-Land quality expectations.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions related to fabrication deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control personnel and field teams to ensure fabricated assemblies support successful field installation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, production efficiency, labor performance, and fabrication workflows.
  • Utilize production metrics, labor performance, and COGS analysis to improve division profitability and execution.

Personnel Development & Accountability

Conduct regular employee evaluations, coaching, and developmental planning.

  • Maintain accountability standards related to attendance, performance, safety, productivity, and professionalism.
  • Identify high-performing employees for advancement opportunities and leadership development.
  • Address employee concerns, performance deficiencies, and workplace conflicts professionally and consistently.
  • Promote a team-oriented culture that emphasizes communication, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on fabrication equipment, welding procedures, material handling, rigging, overhead crane operations, and shop safety procedures.

 

Customer, Vendor & Internal Communication

Maintain professional communication with customers, vendors, engineers, subcontractors, and the other divisions within the company.

  • Participate in operational synchronization meetings, production meetings, quality meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Coordinate closely with estimating, drafting, purchasing, logistics, and field operations to ensure alignment across departments.
  • Serve as a key escalation point for fabrication-related production issues, delays, or customer concerns.
  • Represent Mid-Land Enterprises professionally and with integrity at all times.

Operational Technology & Systems

  • Utilize Procore, Excel, production tracking systems, ERP systems, and fabrication workflows to manage operational performance.
  • Ensure proper production documentation, fabrication tracking, weld traceability, inspection records, and quality documentation.
  • Monitor labor productivity, schedule adherence, equipment utilization, and operational KPIs.
  • Support continuous improvement through operational analysis, reporting, and process optimization.
  • Assist in the implementation of automation technologies, fabrication software, and operational efficiencies.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safety-first culture throughout all fabrication operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, welding safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, rigging standards, and overhead crane safety practices.
  • Participate in and support Mid-Land’s Safety Committee and OUCH Protocol initiatives.
  • Conduct regular shop walkthroughs, safety observations, and operational audits.
  • Ensure proper PPE compliance and enforcement across all fabrication activities.
  • Promote proactive reporting of incidents, near misses, hazards, and good catches.
  • Ensure equipment inspections, maintenance coordination, and safe operational practices are consistently followed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management, Manufacturing Management, Industrial Technology, Welding Technology, or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience managing fabrication shops, manufacturing operations, or industrial production environments.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes, blueprint reading, and shop operations.

Experience leading supervisors, leads, welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and production demands simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Excel, ERP systems, and operational tracking software preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to drive accountability while maintaining a positive and professional culture.
  • Strong understanding of safety requirements related to fabrication and manufacturing operations.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to quickly resolve operational challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with robotic welding systems and automated fabrication equipment.

  • Knowledge of welding procedures, weld symbols, and fabrication QA/QC processes.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, rigging operations, and material handling systems.
  • Previous experience managing multiple shifts or high-volume fabrication operations.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement systems.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety leadership training preferred.
  • PROCORE Certifications
